What is Gastric Botox?

Botulinum toxin is injected into selected stomach muscle areas during endoscopy with the aim of influencing gastric movement, emptying or appetite signals. Effects are temporary and protocols vary.

In March 2023, ECDC reported botulism after stomach injections of botulinum toxin for weight loss in Türkiye; some patients needed intensive care.
